I worked with Carl in the early 1990s and he officiated me in the 1980s when I played in the Hitchin & District Sunday Leagues (He could only have been around 16 at the time!). He was very mature when it came to officiating.
At work he had a sense of humour which kept our spirits up in a stressful environment (we worked at UKs first call centre in Stevenage for BR Red Star Parcels). I remember out of the blue everyday he would just say, to no-one in particular, "Life is like a bowl of cherries".
Carl has gone long before his time. I will remember him. Kev H
